On January 4th of 2021, a tornado touched down in Northern California. You read that right, a tornado touched down in Northern CA! Tehama County to be exact. WWLP News covered the tornado with a great story and video!  Typically tornadoes are not a threat in these areas, but often it is the unexpected and unprepared that can cause the most damage. Here are some tips to help minimize damage from a tornado.

Impact-resistant windows

Tornadoes bring strong winds and usually toss debris everywhere. Often times that debris can cause some of the most damage. Older windows can be likely to break in the event of flying debris. This not only leads to external damage but during a storm, having a broken window can allow water from the rain into your home. Install newer, impact-resistant windows to reduce the risk of damage from debris and high winds.

Ensure proper roof repairs

Over time, weather can begin to break down the integrity of your roof. Repairs and replacement become necessary as natural elements continue to impact your roof. As you are repairing or replacing your roof, there are a few things that can be done to help protect it during severe weather. Some ideas would include high wind roof covering, bracing your gables, and strengthening your connection points.

Impact-resistant glass doors

Many back patio doors consist of mainly glass, and the size of these doors makes them particularly vulnerable to damage from flying debris. Yard furniture along with other outdoor items can pose a major threat to glass doors. Be sure to install impact-resistant glass doors to prevent damage to your home.

If you have experienced storm damage, don’t hesitate to call, we would love to help!
