As fall continues and winter just around the corner, weather changes are sure to come. Wind and rain can cause damage to our home or business if we are unprepared for these changes. Unfortunately, it is in the places we think are safe from the elements, the unchecked places, that can be the source of the most damage. Here are some places to inspect before a storm.
Gutter Clutter
Fall weather brings on great scenery with the changing leaves, but as it progresses, those leaves will fall and can cause build up in your gutters. When storm rains come it can cause your gutters to overflow, and leak into your home. Another potential hazard is having your gutters break or become damaged. It may seem like a simple or mundane task, but be sure to inspect your gutters before stormy weather is here.
Outdoor Furniture
Windy weather from storms can cause damage in many ways. One way that may be easy to forgive is outdoor furniture. Not only can your furniture be tossed around and damaged by the wind, but the wind can also throw your furniture into your home causing windows to break and even damage to your outer walls. Be sure to anchor down, or bring in your outdoor furniture before the winds from a storm reach your area.
Roof damage
Over time, wind and rain can erode the shingles on your roof. With those shingles becoming brittle and loose, all it takes is a strong wind to blow them off of your roof. Missing or broken shingles can allow moisture or rain into your home which can cause mold and water damage. Be sure to check your roof regularly before the storm season comes, as the effects of a damaged roof can hide until it becomes a much bigger problem.
