Fire Safety Awareness

A faulty dishwasher caught on fire in Redding, CA and the homeowner was alerted by her smoke detectors. Much of the time, it's the smoke that causes the most damage. The smoke damage in this case wasn't severe because the smoke detectors alerted the homeowner who was able shut off the power to the dishwasher and smother it with towels. There was very little material damaged by the fire.

The best tip we can give customers is to make sure they don't run their appliances when they go to bed or if they are not home or in he house while running them.

We also suggest that consumers check out the Consumer Product Safety Commission website to search their dishwasher and other appliances to be aware of hazardous appliances.
Keep a multipurpose fire extinguisher in your kitchen and visit the U.S. Fire Administration's website for more information on fire extinguishers.
