Redding Storms, Flood Water and SERVPRO
Shasta County disaster relief and storm clean up requires a SERVPRO professional with protective gear, cleaning techniques, tools and state of the art restoration industry products to adequately recognize and treat both the seen and unseen health concerns and hazards of the devastation a severe rain, thunderstorm or flooding event.
Although many Redding homes would suffer some property loss...
...our trained restoration technicians can often save, clean and restore the sentimental memories of family heirlooms and irreplaceable family furnishings.
Because we are experts in fast storm response and personal protection equipment (PPE) we wanted to pass along a few tips.
1. Respirators and goggles in post-flood conditions are especially critical. Walking into a flood damaged home unprepared could be catastrophic. Household detergents and industrial chemicals, oil, gasoline and sewage swelling up from the earth by the rising flood water create a hazardous mix of pathogens and fumes. >>> Natural Disaster Flooding
2. Keep in mind that animals, snakes, predators and wildlife along with formerly friendly family dogs and cats become confused and displaced when flood water invades their territory. The American Red Cross provides some helpful animal post-storm resources here: >>> Pet Disaster Preparedness
3. Storms produce debris. Downed trees, live electric transformers sparking and flashing in the rain-soaked pools, branches, displaced vehicles, roof asphalt and shingles and any number of structural material from residences. Extreme care and caution is required. Read our article: Flood Water Damage Insurance Regulations for Commercial and Residential Property Owners for further information
4. A word about insurance claims. Flood water silt and mud bury and remove property. Homeowners must prepare by taking pre-storm photos and videos of inside and outside spaces and a full inventory of personal belongings. Photos with a date and time provide proof to an insurer and expedite a successful claim.
